Georges Méliès, full name Marie-Georges-Jean Méliès, was a French magician and filmmaker best known for his 1902 film La Voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon). He was one of the earliest filmmakers in history and directed over 500 films.
He also appears as a character in the 2007 novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret and its 2011 film adaptation, Hugo.
