Suicide and suicide prevention
The act of intentionally taking one’s own life. Death by suicide can occur in the context of a major depressive episode, but it may also occur as a result of substance use or other physical or mental disorders. It can manifest independently of any psychiatric disorder, sometimes without warning signs, particularly as a result of stressful circumstances such as prolonged bereavement, bullying, financial difficulties, or declining health.
