How to work with the media

A handbook for psychologists

Introduction

Because psychology touches virtually every aspect of our existence, psychological research is some of the most widely reported news in the United States, if not the world.

At some point in your career, a reporter may call you for an interview or invite you to appear on a television or radio program. Or you might want to talk to reporters to spread the word about your work.

The media provide an opportunity for you to tell the public more about your work, your latest research findings, or an issue of particular concern to you as a psychologist. You will want to accurately represent your area of expertise to the public.
