This article discusses how more than 40 years of research show that traditional masculinity-marked by stoicism, competiveness, dominance and aggression, is undermining men's well-being. APA's new Guidelines for Psychological Practice With Boys and Men strive to help psychologists recognize this problem for boys and men while remaining sensitive to maintaining their strengths.
