Recognition of Organizations that Provide Certifications in Specialties and Subspecialties in Professional Psychology

Organizations that provide certifications in APA-recognized specialties and subspecialties may apply to be recognized by APA so that individuals with a certification from the organization can have that credential listed in the APA membership directory.

The Commission for the Recognition of Specialties and Subspecialties in Professional Psychology (CRSSPP) carries out this recognition process.

How to apply

  2. If you are interested in submitting an application for review, please email us to request an application.

  3. Submit the application to Jennifer Taylor, PhD. Bookmarked, searchable PDFs are the preferred format.

  4. New and renewal applications are due May 1. Applications may be submitted for earlier review. Contact Jennifer Taylor, PhD, for further information.

How to provide comments

When organizations apply for recognition, notice is provided so that third-party comments can be made about those organizations. The commission accepts third-party comments about organizations applying for recognition which must state the name of the people or parties represented by each comment. Issues addressed in comments should focus on the issues covered by the Criteria for the Recognition of Organizations that Provide Certifications in Specialties and Subspecialties in Professional Psychology (PDF, 104KB)opens in new window.

All comments must be in writing and are limited to 10 pages. To process third-party comments in the most efficient manner, comments should be provided within 90 days of the program’s date of application.

  • Under review
    The organization has not yet received a final decision and no further information on the organization and its stage in the recognition process may be provided. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the organization directly for further details.

  • Recognized
    Organizations that have been judged by the CRSSPP to be consistent substantively and procedurally with the Criteria for the Recognition of Organizations that Provide Certifications in Specialties and Subspecialties in Professional Psychology.

  • Application voluntarily withdrawn
    The organization has voluntarily withdrawn its application from the recognition process.

    Application fees are for initial and renewal applications. The organization must provide payment with the submission of application for recognition.
