See the top search results first in Gmail on mobile
What’s changing
As part of our efforts to improve the search experience in Gmail on mobile, we’re introducing a feature that helps you find exactly what you’re looking for with less effort.
When searching in Gmail, machine learning models will use the search term, most recent emails and other relevant factors to show you the results that best match your search query. These results will now appear at the top of the list in a dedicated section, followed by all results sorted by recency.

Getting started
- Admins: There is no admin control for this feature.
- End users:
- On your mobile device, navigate to the Gmail search bar and type in relevant keywords to return results that best match your search query.
- Visit the Help Center to learn more about search in Gmail and smart features & controls in Google products.
Rollout pace
- Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains: Extended rollout (potentially longer than 15 days for feature visibility) starting on June 2, 2023
Availability
- Available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts
