The Desktop Experience Team (or "DX Team" for short) is an engineering team at Canonical developing a set of new technologies for the Linux desktop, including:
Unity, the new netbook oriented user interface
"Ayatana" cross-desktop libraries like: dbusmenu or the set of panel indicators.
Multitouch, the Ubuntu gesture stack introduced with Maverick Meerkat 10.10
