The Museum of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is a space dedicated to introducing MEXT’s diverse range of activities. Upon relocation of the MEXT office building in January 2008, the Museum was set up in the former Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture building now designated as a “Registered Tangible Cultural Property”. The Museum is designed as a place to strengthen communication between MEXT and the people and is open to be viewed by everyone, free of charge.
The Museum is comprised of five exhibition rooms divided into the following sections: Minister’s Office in 1933, Education, Science and Technology, Sports, Culture, and is also equipped with a lounge. Visitors will have the opportunity to see various displays as well as periodic special events. We are looking forward to your visit.
Exhibition Rooms on the Museum of MEXT
-Minister’s Office in 1933
The room has been restored to the original state of when the ministry building was completed in 1933. Furniture used by successive ministers is displayed.
-Education
A timeline introducing the history of Japanese education starting from the Nara Period up to today, a classroom theater showing education-related films, samples of the nostalgic stationery and school lunches are displayed.
-Sports
Uniforms worn by internationally renowned Japanese athletes, replica of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics winners’ podium are displayed.
-Science and Technology
A timeline introducing the history of Japanese science and technology from the Edo Period up to today, a display of cutting-edge research achievements, special exhibits by universities and research institutions are also intermittently displayed.
-Culture
Fine art and cultural assets in the possession of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, detailed replicas of cultural assets are displayed.
-Lounge
A space for exhibiting various special events arranged by MEXT, pamphlets provided to be viewed by visitors. And also, it is possible to use the lounge for meetings..
