Submit an effect for Effect Maker

Before your effects can be used by others, you must submit them. Each submission requires an effect name and thumbnail that comply with YouTube's guidelines to be published.

Submit your effect

Once you’re ready to submit your request, make sure you have met all the requirements. Your effect name and thumbnail will be reviewed to make sure they adhere to the content guidelines for Effect Maker before they are published on YouTube. Additionally, technical limits apply: individual assets cannot exceed 5MB in size, and your effect cannot exceed 50MB memory usage in total.

  1. Start the submission process: Click Submit in the upper right corner when you have finished editing your effect and are ready to submit it.
  2. Upload a thumbnail image: Thumbnails will appear on YouTube and must adhere to the content guidelines:
    • You can upload or drag and drop it directly from your computer. The image needs to be a minimum of 512x512px in JPEG or PNG format, and must not exceed 2MB or 1024x1024px.
    • Image requirements: You can use an image processing tool, screenshots, or other illustrative methods to create and design the thumbnail.
  3. Name your effect: Names should accurately describe your effect.
    • Note: Effect name should not include any special characters or emojis.
  4. Describe your effect: Help people find your effect by describing what kind of effect it is or what it does.
  5. Select instructions (interactive effects only): Include info on how to use the effect.
  6. Visibility: Effects are public so anyone can find and use them on YouTube. Deleting your effect from YouTube will prevent it from being used in new videos. However, existing videos that already used your effect will remain unaffected.
  7. To submit your effect: Click Submit once you’ve entered all the necessary information. It could take a few business days for an effect to be reviewed and published. To view the status of your effect, you can check on the Manage tab in Effect Maker.
