Use Live Caption on your Android XR device

With a single tap, Live Caption automatically captions speech on your device. You can use it on media like videos, podcasts, phone calls, video calls, and audio messages.

Turn on Live Caption

Important:

  • Your battery usage increases when you use Live Caption.
  • On your device, Live Caption detects speech and automatically generates captions. Song lyrics aren’t captioned.
  1. On your Android XR device, open the Settings app.
  2. On the left, scroll to "Accessibility."
  3. Select Accessibility and then Hearing enhancements and then Live Caption.
  4. Turn on Use Live Caption.

Change Live Caption settings

  1. On your Android XR device, open the Settings app.
  2. On the left, scroll to "Accessibility."
  3. Select Accessibility and then Hearing enhancements and then Live Caption.
  4. Under "Settings," you can find or change these settings:
    • Languages: Currently, English is the only language available.
    • Suggest detected languages: To get captions, download new languages.
    • Caption preferences: Set caption size and style. Not all apps support these settings.
      • To select caption size and style:
        1. Turn on Show captions.
        2. Under "Caption preferences," select Caption size and style.
          • To change font size: Select Text size.
          • To change style: Select Caption style.
      • To select other languages: Under "Caption preferences," select More options and then Language.
    • Hide profanity: Profanity replaces with an asterisk symbol (*).
    • Show sound labels: Includes sounds like laughter, applause, and music.
    • Live Caption in volume control: Set the volume of Live Caption from the volume control menu.
