Android XR accessibility overview
To help improve your experience with Android XR, you can customize accessibility features and download accessibility apps.
Important: Specific navigation and feature names may vary across markets and devices.
Use accessibility features
- On your Android XR device, open the Settings app.
- Select Accessibility.
Manage vision enhancement settings
To support your vision needs, you can turn on these features:
- TalkBack screen reader:
- For spoken feedback and descriptions of what you find on your device, use the built-in TalkBack screen reader.
- Find alerts and notifications through TalkBack.
- Audio descriptions: To get descriptions of visuals for videos that you play, in supported media, turn on audio descriptions.
To support your vision or light sensitivity needs, you can turn on these features:
- Display size and text controls: Learn how to change text and display settings.
- Color inversion: If you have issues with photosensitivity, turn on Color inversion.
- Screen magnification: To zoom in on all or portions of the display, use magnification.
- Contrast and colors: To adjust contrast or colors, use:
- High contrast fonts: Use to have fonts in high contrast.
- Color inversion: Use to reverse the color of the display.
- Color correction: Use to help your device compensate for color blindness.
- Reduce animations: Use if you experience motion sickness, photosensitivity, or seizure triggers, on supported apps, to reduce various system and image transition effects.
- Relumino outline: Use to increase the contrast and brightness and emphasize the outlines of images.
- Adjust brightness: Use to adjust the brightness of your display.
- Accessibility toolbar: To easily control and navigate your device, you can use a persistent menu.
Manage hearing enhancement settings
To support your audio needs, you can turn on these features:
- Live Caption: To automatically generate subtitles for any audio that plays, turn on Live Caption. Learn more about Live Caption.
- Caption preferences: Set your caption preferences for supported Android XR apps. You can customize language, text size, and style. Learn more about Caption preferences.
- Hearing aid support: When you use hearing aids, it amplifies sound and makes it easier for you to hear.
- Mono audio: To play the same sound out of both speakers, turn on Mono audio.
- Left or Right sound balance: To adjust the volume between the left and right audio channels, slide the pointer from left to right or vice versa.
Use hover actions
To interact without pinching to select, you can use hover actions.
- Keep your gaze on the object you want to select. The selection completes automatically.
- You can adjust settings for hover actions, like:
- Duration: Set how long you must keep your gaze on an item before it’s selected.
- Movement tolerance: Set how much your cursor can move before the hover action cancels.
Set accessibility toolbars & shortcuts
You can assign accessibility shortcuts to these options:
- Accessibility toolbar
- Top and Volume up buttons
- Volume up and down buttons
