For the life of me I've never managed to get this to work.

I often have videos that clearly have correct rotation metadata -- Windows thumbnails and the Photos app display them fine -- but when I open them in VLC, they play sideways. Currently I'm seeing this with av01 videos in an MP4 container.

I've verified under Adjustments and Effects -> Geometry that I don't have any sort of override set, but this still happens.

This is incredibly frustrating. How can I make VLC respect the rotation of my videos?

  • Not enough info. Normally VLC should in theory autorotate. What formats are affected? How is the rotation set? Commented 22 hours ago
  • @Destroy666: It's reporting av01 as the format, updated the question. It says the rotation is "top left" (whatever that means) but it's failing to rotate 90 degrees clockwise like it's supposed to. Commented 17 hours ago
