I am processing a file with a lot of temporal noise. Using hqdn3d in FFMPEG with very high settings, I was able to successfully remove the temporal noise. But, now, scenes with quick motion contain heavy ghosting artifacts.

How can I remove the ghosting artifacts from the file? Can this be accomplished with filters like atadenoise, bm3d, nlmeans, hqdn3d, or using a different program?

  • Can you share with us what you've tried and a summary of the research you've done? Asking us to recommend a piece of software to fix this is off topic on this site. Asking us how to do this is ON topic and is a good question. Use the EDIT button to make your question better. Commented Dec 1 at 15:55
  • I removed the off-topic part of your question and left the on-topic part. If a specific tool is part of a solution, that tool will be suggested as part of a complete answer. You have reversed that edit, putting the off topic question back. I recommend that you read the HELP section to better understand this site. Commented Dec 1 at 17:54
  • The edit doesn't make sense and 90% of it is removing ffmpeg filters and 3 words about other software that don't suggest software recommendations. The question should instead be closed for not providing a command you used, though. CLI app questions, especially ones that mention partial success, should almost always include a command. • Yes, that last Q should be kept in. To the OP, share some images or video of the ghosting, alongside the full command. Commented Dec 2 at 4:06
  • I suggest you use an implicit crf value. I use nlmeans ... -vcodec libx265 -crf 18 -preset slow -vf nlmeans="3.5:7:5:3:3" ... the first value is the reducing noise level : 1.0 to 1.8 for 720p video and 1.0 to 4.0 for 1080p, e.g.: -crf 18 is the quality of compression, lower values, leads to a better quality. But you can also try to use your former command line with an additional -crf 18. Commented Dec 2 at 13:35
