I would like to disable the menu item named "Exit Explorer" that shows up in the context menu after you press [Ctrl]+[Shift] and [Right Click of Mouse] on Windows Taskbar. I utilize a parental control program (Kaspersky) that cannot function without Windows Explorer. And kids figured out that when they kill Windows Explorer process, then Parental Control program (Kaspersky Safe Kids) stops limiting their screen time (but still filters content). I want to disable kids access to everything "Exit Explorer" in Windows 10/11. NOTE: I don't want to swap to another Parental Control software, or wait until Kaspersky fixes this. I just want to disable that "Exit Explorer" menu item mentioned above. If you know how I can do that - I would really appreciate!!! Thank you all for your help...

P.S.: I blocked kids access to system files (cmd, explorer, powershell, taskmgr, etc) with the help of Windows NTFS File Access settings. So all good there.

Microsoft has a very decent, built in, and entirely free "Microsoft Family" control that includes screen time controls. Because it is integrated natively into the OS, it is more difficult to circumvent. Also, having your kids do their computer time in a public area may be necessary for teaching them appropriate responsibility. Commented Apr 14 at 16:01

You can completely disable the Task Bar context menu by editing the Registry, adding two values:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoTrayContextMenu"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoTrayContextMenu"=dword:00000001

That said, it might make Windoews less convenient to use, and it invites a game of cat-and-mouse, where you encourage the children to seek another way to defeat Parental Controls, rather than teaching them more honorable behavior.

  • Thank you very much DrMoishe Pippik, I will try this and report back. Yes, it will make Windows less convenient, but this is a short term goal. I am working on other means of getting them distracted naturally. Have a nice day! Commented Apr 15 at 8:51
