ssh hanging

tried several variations, no dice. Even tried:
#!/bin/perl
close(STDIN);
close(STDERR);
open(STDOUT,">~/.sshagent");
system("ssh-agent");
close(STDOUT);
That was close. Perhaps i'm getty a ctty effect, and should try
opening .sshagent with a diff filehandle before I close STDOUT.
Hmmm.
