Mike,
Thank you, that's wonderful! I knew dedent was a major speed problem, 
but I couldn't think of how to speed it up, and to my eye keeping the 
docstrings properly indented in the code makes a *huge* difference in 
readability.

Mike,
After a quick test, I am puzzled: running "backend_driver.py Template"
takes 0.49 minutes on my machine before and after this change, so the 
dedenting time must have been less than I thought.
