d'Alembert's Paradox

The symmetry of Bernoulli's equation means that, for an irrotational flow in the absence of a boundary layer, the drag on any object is zero. (A force perpendicular to the relative motion is, however, permitted. This allows lift.) The resolution of this paradox is that momentum is transferred from the object in the boundary layer.
