Wavelength

The wavelength of a wave is the distance between corresponding points separated by one period. It is commonly denoted , and given by

where v is the wave speed and is the frequency.

For a wave in a dielectric,

(1)

where c is the speed of light and n is the dielectric constant, so

(2)

The symbol

(3)

is sometimes used, where k is the wavenumber.
