Wavefunction

A wavefunction is a scalar function that is used to describe the properties of a wave. Wavefunctions are commonly encountered in quantum mechanics, where they arise as solutions to the Schrödinger equation. Particles with symmetric wavefunctions are called bosons. Particles with antisymmetric wavefunctions are called fermions.
