Stroboscope

n instrument invented by Edgerton Eric Weisstein's World of Biography which can be used to take a very rapid series of photographs at rates of up to 2000 frames per second. The resulting pictures can make rotational motion appear to stop (the strobe effect), or simply provide a capability to catch rapidly moving phenomena on film.
