Second Viscosity Coefficient

For a compressible fluid, i.e., one for which , where is the divergence Eric Weisstein's World of Math of the velocity field, the stress tensor of the fluid can be written

where is the Kronecker delta Eric Weisstein's World of Math, is the dynamic viscosity, and is the second coefficient of viscosity (Tritton 1988). is analogous to the first Lamé constant. For an incompressible fluid, the term involving drops out from the equation, so can be ignored.
