Rest Mass

In special relativity, the rest mass corresponds to the classical concept mass. However, for a body not at rest and traveling with respect to an inertial reference frame at a speed v, special relativity shows that rest mass is dilated according to

where

is relativistic gamma, is relativistic beta, and c is the speed of light.

The quantity m is sometimes called the relativistic mass.
