Resistor

A resistor is an electronic component that is designed to offer a desired amount of resistance to the flow of current.

Resistors have impedance

(1)

the energy stored in a resistor is

(2)

and the power dissipated by a resistor is

(3)

where I is the current and V is the voltage.

The resistance of a resistor is indicated by a series of colored circular bands around it according to the encoding summarized below.

Number Color
0 black
1 brown
2 red
3 orange
4 yellow
5 green
6 blue
7 violet
8 gray
9 white
