Nuclear Reactor

A device designed to maintain a controlled chain reaction. The neutron source for nuclear reactors is spontaneous fissioning of uranium. Modern American power-generating reactors use light water as moderator and coolant, and the control rods are usually boron or an alloy of silver-indium-cadmium.
