Mean Motion

The mean motion is equal to the average angular frequency of a body in elliptical orbit, and is defined by

(1)

where T is the orbital period. The mean motion appears in Kepler's third law as

(2)

where G is the gravitational constant, M is the mass of the central body, and a is the semimajor axis Eric Weisstein's World of Math.
