Line of Apsides

The line in the plane of the orbit corresponding to the longitude of pericenter, denoted . One of the earliest triumphs in the theory of general relativity was the correct prediction of the relativistic precession of the line of apsides of Mercury, Eric Weisstein's World of Astronomy an effect that had been observed but not explained up until that point.
