Isoplanicity Assumption

The assumption that all wavefronts arriving from different parts of the patch of sky to which interferometer antenna pairs are sensitive are subject to nearly identical phase perturbations. A patch of sky over which this assumption is valid is called an isoplanatic patch. If the isoplanicity assumption is true, then the process of self calibration can significantly improve images in synthesis imaging.
