Golay Cell

A broadband detector which consists essentially of a painted cube with black fuzz. A gold film transducer is placed inside. It deforms when the gas inside expands upon heating, pneumatically measuring a gas volume. Light is reflected off the gold, giving a temperature reading. Golay cells are extremely sensitive, but very delicate. They work regardless of ambient temperature.
