Fundamental Forces

There are four fundamental forces: strong, electromagnetic, weak, and gravitational, although the electromagnetic and weak forces can be united into a single so-called electroweak force. In addition, a number of experiments have been performed that hint at the existence of a fifth fundamental force, although none of these has ever been confirmed.

The following table summarizes the strengths and other important properties of the four fundamental forces.

name relative strength carrier name symbol range (fm) mass (MeV/)
strong force 1 gluon g 2 0?

Electromagnetic Force, Fifth Force, Gravitational Force, Particle Decay, Standard Model, Strong Force, Weak Force
