Bénard Configuration

The Bénard configuration consists of two parallel horizontal boundaries separated by a distance d. There is a constant temperature gradient from (top) (bottom). This configuration is unstable since hot, light material can rise. Convection will occur when (the Rayleigh number) (for this configuration with a closed top boundary).
