Bar

A bar is a structural element whose length is much greater than its greatest cross-sectional diameter. Under compression, a bar is called a column or strut. Under bending, a bar is called a beam. Under torsion, a bar is called a shaft. Finally, under tension, a bar is called a tie.

The bar is also a unit of pressure equal to 105 Pascals, or .

There is also a cgs unit of pressure known as a bar which is equal to .
