Antenna Gain

The gain of an antenna is defined as

(1)

where D is the directivity, e is the antenna efficiency, and is the antenna efficiency.

The directional gain is then defined by

(2)

where p is fraction of signal with polarization of antenna, is the aperture efficiency, and

(3)

For a thermal (i.e., unpolarized) source, .
