Absorbance

In terms of the transmittance T, the absorbance is given by

(1)

An expression for absorbance by a solution Eric Weisstein's World of Chemistry is given by

(2)

where I is the intensity, c is the molar concentration, is the molar absorptivity (in cm-1 M-1), and l is the path length (usually in cm), and c is the molar concentration. This expression is sometimes known as Beer's law. For solids,

Amphiboles Eric Weisstein's World of Chemistry and pyroxenes Eric Weisstein's World of Chemistry generally have 1.5-5.0, while materials with spin forbidden transitions have 0.01-0.05.
