Abyss Web Server

Has anyone here tried running RB behind Abyss? If so, what settings do I have to tweak? I'm about to jump on this train, just thought I'd ask to save myself some joy...

Was just checking out Abyss, I may get that Pro version. I don't think you can run RB on the personal/free version as it does not provide Virtual hosting.

If you get it working let me know as I have had major headaches with getting Apache to work, mainly due to my lack of knowledge in this area.

This is a new area for me as well, but I'm not so sure it has to do with virtual hosting. For example, I can run PHP, ASP (both classic and .NET), Perl, Ruby, Python and so on. I even run windows EXE's as CGI's that I did in another language. I think it could work if we could run RB from the command line. Then again what do I know.. If you buy it and that fixes it for you get back to me.

The only thing I have been able to do with RB so far is to run RB and Abyss side by side on different ports. RB on 8008 and Abyss on 8080. Then i just call my app from a page. It's clunky but it works.

Abyss is pretty easy to set-up I kinda like it.
Spoke to tech support about running RunBasic behind Abyss and they said that the new version 2.7, due out in a few months, will allow for 'reverse-proxy' currently 2.6 does not have this feature.

They might have a 'test' version of 2.7 out shortly and they will send a me a copy.

Aside from that, I really like there EZ set-up.

That's good news because I really like the speed of development time with RunBASIC. I would hate to have to port my code just to have some extra security and FastCGI, which by the way I don't think Apache fully supports. I know that RB doesn't support it either (not yet anyway) but I can still create FCGI apps using a more traditional language + Abyss.

Has anything new happened with Abyss Web Server to help facilitate its use with Run BASIC?

I'm running 2.7 (the "pro" version) and quite frankly I'm having difficulties getting PHP to work. I don't see any "reverse proxy" settings that was mentioned previously but that said I'm not an expert user.

After some frustration with my webhost and other 3rd party software I jumped ship and am perusing the self-host route. For starters I moved my domain hosting and dns management to DynDNS and pointing my RunBasic powered site to one port and my static HTML site to another.

FWIW I had purchased RunBasic some time ago and in spite of good intentions just never really used it except for some playing around. In a fit of nostalgia for the old days (brought up on a TRS-80 Model I and HAD to learn BASIC to get any use out of it) I decided it's time to have some fun again. Let's hope this mood lasts until I get a site off the ground with RunBASIC. LOL :)

While you're playing around and relearning BASIC, take a look at some of the demos at the RunBASIC wikispaces site. There's some good stuff there. ;)
