Nationally competitive fellowships
Boren Scholarships fund up to 25,000ドル for undergraduate study abroad in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Language study must be a core component of the program. In exchange for funding, Boren Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation.

Boren Fellowships fund up to 25,000ドル for language study proposals - which may be paired with research, coursework, and/or internships - for graduate students studying abroad in world regionscritical to U.S. interests. In exchange for funding, Boren Fellows commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation.

Through the James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace offers one-year fellowships to work as a research assistant to Carnegie's Senior Scholars.

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of nine critical languages.

- Eligibility: U.S. citizen, some langauges require prior study
The Douglass-O'Connell Global Internship is an 8-week summer internship program in Dublin, Ireland, during which participants will expand their understanding of Irish history and culture while gaining practical work experience.

- Open to: Freshman, sophomores, and juniors
- Eligibility: U.S. citizen, U.S. national or permanent resident; Pell Grant-eligible; 3.0+ GPA
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards grants to conduct research, pursue graduate study, or teach English abroad. The program has partnerships with more than 140 countries worldwide and supports all academic disciplines.

- Open to: Seniors, recent grads, graduate students
- Eligibility: U.S. citizen
The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are three to four week programs for U.S. undergraduate students who have had no (or very little) previous study/travel experience outside of North America. Several UK Summer Institutes are offered each year, each hosted by a different UK university and focused on a specific historical, cultural, or or subject-related theme.

- Open to: Undergraduate students with at least 2 years left in their degree
- Eligibility: U.S. citizen, 3.6+ GPA, little to no travel abroad experience
The Gates Cambridge Scholarship awards funding to pursue a graduate degree in most fields at the University of Cambridge in the UK.
- Fellowship deadline: Mid-October
- Open to: Seniors and recent graduates
- Eligibility: Citizens of any country outside the UK
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants of up to 5,000ドル for undergraduates of limited financial means to pursue study abroad (credit-bearing coursework or internships).

- Open to: Undergraduate students

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming this nation's next generation of natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering research leaders.

- Open to: Sophomores and Juniors
- Eligibility: U.S. citizen or permanent resident
The NOAA Hollings Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding students studying in NOAA mission fields, providing awards that include academic assistance for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid internship at a NOAA facility during the summer between the first and second years of the award.

- Open to: Sophomores
- Eligibility: U.S. citizen, 3.0+ GPA
Each Knight-Hennessy Scholar receives up to three years of financial support to pursue graduate studies at Stanford while engaging in experiences that prepare scholars to be visionary, courageous, and collaborative leaders who address complex challenges facing the world.

- Open to: Seniors and recent graduates
- Eligibility: Citizens of any country, earned bachelor's degree within seven years of intended enrollment at Stanford
The Lafayette Fellowship awards funding to pursue a one-year master's degree at a partner institution in France. Eligible programs cover a range of disciplines in STEM, social sciences, humanities, and the arts, with courses taught in French or entirely in English.

- Open to: Seniors and recent graduates
- Eligibility: Bachelor's degree from a U.S. instutition completed within past 3 years (for this application cycle, that's August 2023 and after), under age 27 (as of July 1, 2026), 3.7+ GPA
The Luce Scholars Program is thirteen months of language training, cultural immersion, and learning on the job at a professional placement, tailored to the Scholar's interests, in an Asian country.

- Eligibility: U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Marshall Scholarships award funding to pursue graduate study in most fields at any British university. Most typically, Marshall Scholars will complete two one-year master's degrees (at the same or different UK universities).

- Eligibility: U.S. citizen, 3.7+ GPA, graduated within past 3 years (for this application cycle, that's May 2024 and after)
McCall MacBain Scholars participate in an interdisciplinary leadership program while pursuing a fully funded master’s or professional degree at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

- Eligibility: Citizens of any country
The Voyager Scholarship is a two-year leadership development and scholarship program for students who will create meaningful change through public service careers. It provides financial aid, facilitates travel experiences, and connects students to a network of peers and mentors.

- Eligibility: U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or DACA recipient,3.0+ GPA, financial need
The Pickering Fellowship awards graduate fellowships to individuals committed to joining the Foreign Service. The fellowship helps finance two-year graduate programs, provides two summer internships, and offers mentoring and other professional development activities. Fellows who successfully complete the program and Foreign Service entry requirements receive appointments as Foreign Service Officers, in accordance with applicable law and State Department policy.

The PPIA Junior Summer Institute (JSI) Fellowship Program is arigorous six-week summer program for juniors committed to public service careers. The purpose of the JSI Fellowship is to prepare students to obtain a master’s degree in public policy, public administration, international affairs, or a related field.

The Rangel Program awards graduate fellowships to individuals committed to joining the Foreign Service. The fellowship helps finance two-year graduate programs, provides two summer internships, and offers mentoring and other professional development activities. Fellows who successfully complete the program and Foreign Service entry requirements receive appointments as Foreign Service Officers, in accordance with applicable law and State Department policy.

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week summer program designed to provide undergraduate students with a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a greater understanding of career opportunities in international affairs, and the enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers.

- Open to: Undergraduates with at least sophomore standing
- Eligibility: U.S. citizen, 3.2+ GPA
Rhodes Scholars receive funding for at least two years of graduate study in most fields at the University of Oxford in the UK.

- Eligibility (to apply through the American Constituency): U.S. citizen or permanent resident, 3.7+ GPA. Citizens of other countries may be eligible to apply through a different Rhodes constituency.
Samvid Scholars supports future leaders with exceptional potential and committment to drive change for society at scale through funding of up to 50,000ドル per year for two years of U.S.-based graduate study in approved degree programs (MD, MBA, JD, MPP/MPA, MPH, MS/MA in social sciences or STEM) along with leadership development programming.

- Eligibility: U.S. citizen or DACA recipient, 3.5+ GPA
Schwarzman Scholars will learn about China and global affairs, gaining the experience and knowledge to advance international collaboration through a one-year master's program at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

- Eligibility: Citizens of any country (applicants who hold passports or permanent resident cards from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, or Macao have an earlier deadline), up to age 29
The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans support one to two years of graduate or professional study (in any field and anywhere in the U.S.), investing in the graduate education of New Americans - immigrants and the children of immigrants - who are poised to make significant contributions to U.S. society, culture, or their academic field.

The Truman Scholarship awards scholarships to college juniors who will pursue careers in public service, broadly defined. Truman Scholars receive up to 30,000ドル for graduate or professional school, and participate in programs likeTruman Scholars Leadership Week in Missouri, and Summer Institute in Washington, DC.

- Eligibility: U.S. citizen
The Udall Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to college sophomores and juniors in recognition of leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to the environment or to Native American nations. Scholarships are offered in three categories: Environment (open to undergraduates pursuing careers related to conservation and environmental issues), Tribal Policy (open to Native American and Alaskan Native students working on policy issues in Native American nations), and Native Health Care (open to Native American and Alaskan Native students pursuing health-related careers).
