Munich is generally described as a clean and very safe city, which stands out compared to other German cities. It's praised for its attractive architecture, abundance of parks, and a high number of cafés and restaurants, making it pleasant for daily life and leisure. The English Garden is a highlight with lots of outdoor activities, and some visitors recommend staying in nearby areas like Dachau and commuting in, which can be convenient and enjoyable. On the downside, the city is seen by some as conservative and more suitable for older, wealthier people. English speakers may find the atmosphere less welcoming, and the city is noted for lacking a vibrant, international or startup-friendly scene compared to places like Berlin, London, or Barcelona. The cost of living is also a common concern, with high pricing called out multiple times. Overall, while some find it a great place to live or visit, others feel it lacks excitement, diversity, and affordability.

I really like Munich. It is a great place to live. + sunny + parks / green + walkable + many cafés / restaurants etc + pretty architecture + very safe - very expensive - many conservative people - can get really cold in the winter

We stayed in Munich for 2 weeks, and more specifically, we were in Dachau. Amazing city that is very clean, safe, and full of history. Dachau has a lot to offer as well, so I recommend staying a bit further out and take the train to the city center. The English garden is a fantastic place to surf, swim, layout, walk, bike, or have a picnic. I will definitely come back here!

I stayed for some days in Munich and I really enjoy. The city is beautiful and you can find a lot of stuff to do and a lot of great restaurants. The city is also very safe compared the other german cities.

I was in Munich for 9 months and couldn't get used to the city. It's actually a small town for old and rich people. The flair is not international, but terribly German-conservative. There is neither an interesting start-up nor a tech community. Many people are unfriendly when you speak English. The leisure activities outside Munich (nature) are nice, unfortunately there is not much going on in the city compared to London, Berlin or Barcelona. In Germany, everyone seems to want to go to Berlin, so if you don't, I recommend looking at Hamburg or Cologne - but unfortunately not Munich.

I've lived in Munich for six months during my Erasmus internship. It is a great place to live generally, offering high quality of life, and it would hands down be the best city to live in Germany if: -It wasn't expensive af, especially rent prices -It wasn't almost impossible to find a place to rent (like literally the only way to find is through acquaintances) -Bavaria was less bureaucratic and more tech-progressive -It had more... young people; much of the youth there is because of the two of the best unis in Germany (LMU & TUM) that receive many EU & International students, otherwise it would have been a city of old people.
Everything else is pretty much great in Munich, which is quite liberal in an otherwise conservative state.

Values shown are estimated visits by traveling remote workers based on the total amount of trips logged by Nomads.com members. Visits to a place are only counted once per year per user, even if they visit more in that year. Visits are also normalized by overall trips added per month on the site, so if site usage goes up or down it does not affect trends. Not all digital nomads are on Nomads.com, and not all Nomads.com members log their trips. So the data is only indicative.
The chart below shows visitors by nationality normalized for population size. This means we take all trips logged on Nomads.com, check which country of origin the user is from, then divide that total visit count by the country of origin's population. If we didn't, it'd just show the big countries like US, Brazil and India always on top. Instead, this shows which nationalities worldwide proportionally visit more or less, which is more useful.
