Campaigns/Foundation Product Team/Registration/V1 Summary
The Campaigns team plans to build and release a new version of the event registration tool, which is called V1. In this page, we will explain the plans and vision for this release.
What is V1?
V1 of the event registration tool will build on the V0 release of the tool. The goal is to improve V0 with new features and improvements, so organizers can have a tool that is usable in their campaign events (and other types of events). The V1 feature will not have "everything." In fact, we plan to release further features and improvements after V1. However, V1 will be more robust, feature-rich, and useful than V0, with many new features. You can learn more about these improvements in the "Core Features" section below.
Release date
- November 3, 2022: We released an early version of V1 (with a limited number of features) to testwiki and test2wiki.
- Week of November 28-Dec 2, 2022: We plan to release the event registration tool to Meta-wiki. This will be first release cycle with some features included, and we will continue to release further feature improvements after this release.
For the latest updates, please visit the release page.
Core features
We have provided below a list of the core feature improvements in V1. These feature improvements were selected after receiving feedback from V0 testers and consulting with internal Wikimedia Foundation teams.
Prioritized features for first release (late November 2022):
- Support for the organizer to specify an event timezone
- Private registration: the option for participants to register and only display their registered username to organizers of the event
- Automatic confirmation emails after participants have registered
Features we will be working on after the first release:
- Integration with the Programs & Events Dashboard
- The ability for the organizer to email participants (if an email address is associated with their accounts)
- Note that there is a current work-around for organizers to email participants via the 'Email this user' feature on their user page. However, with this feature, the organizer will be able to message one, some, or all participants at once.
- Geocoding support
- The ability for multiple organizers to be associated with an event
Prototypes
If you would like to get a feeling of how the tool may work, we invite you to check out these prototypes. Please be aware that these are not live working products. They were examples created by our team designer to give an early idea of the tool, but the final result will probably look and feel a bit different.
Organizer testers
There will be an organizer and participant side of the event registration tool. The organizer side will be tested by a small group of event organizers and Campaigns team members (see list below). The participant side will be testable by anyone on Meta-wiki who joins an event created by the test organizers.
