Wikimedia Community User Group South Sudan is the officially recognized Wikimedia affiliate representing South Sudan's growing community of volunteer editors, translators, and open knowledge advocates. Since our recognition in February 2025, we have worked to document South Sudan's languages, Indigenous names, and oral heritage, while training a new generation of Wikimedians across Juba and surrounding communities.
Our growing network of volunteers is united by a shared mission: closing the representation gap for South Sudanese culture, languages, and history on Wikimedia projects, and building a sustainable, locally-led open knowledge movement.

Who we are
[edit ]The Wikimedia Community User Group South Sudan (WCUGSS) is a volunteer-driven community advancing free, inclusive, and locally relevant knowledge across Wikimedia projects — including Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons.
Founded as a grassroots initiative and officially recognized by the Wikimedia Foundation in 2025, WCUGSS operates in a context shaped by limited digital infrastructure and low awareness of open knowledge. Despite these constraints, the group has built a steady, growing network of contributors working to document South Sudan's languages, culture, history, and everyday realities — knowledge that is otherwise underrepresented online.
Mission and Vision

- Amplifying marginalized voices, cultures, and languages
