Overview
[edit ]Posting comments that aren't in real time, and with no real rules for a discussion except for "no vandalism" and "be respectful", is hard if you're trying to have a discussion, but that's what happens on Meta-Wiki, whenever there's a proposal. Wouldn't it be better to have a more organized, live-chat proposals project?
That's what Wikidiscussions is for. With live chat and more rules, a site for these discussions could go a lot farther and get proposals either accepted or rejected easier. But how does it work, exactly?
Discussions would be propositions for new Wikimedia projects, new-language Wikimedia projects, etc. These would be created by users (no IP addresses), and they would be "marked" with a specific language that would be the language of the discussion, and the proposal would also be "marked" with the type. Say, a proposal for a new Wikimedia project. There would be "support", "oppose", "weak support", "weak oppose", "strong support", "strong oppose", "neutral", "comment", and "question" buttons while live chatting that you could click to indicate your stance on the issue. Administrators could periodically check in with projects and give their thoughts.
Now, for rules, currently the only ones on Meta-Wiki, in a nutshell, are "no vandalizing" and "be respectful". So here are some new rules that would be implemented in Wikidiscussions.
1. No inappropriate chat (I haven't seen it on Meta-Wiki but I couldn't find it as an official rule either)
2. The discussions may only be Wiki-related (e.g. no random discussions, such as a discussion about the latest... idk, something)
3. Stay on topic
4. The discussions would be marked "under consideration" (not yet sent to the WMF), "stale" (inactive or very little support but could be re-opened), "sent" (sent to the WMF), "approved", "rejected", and "blocked" (if it is not Wiki-related, it is inappropriate, or both)
5. No advertising
Breaking any of these rules can get you bans, warnings, or blocks.
Protections, as with other wikis, would be applied to frequently-vandalized discussions.
Userpages would be the same as on other wikis, no need to change them.
Talk pages would be the only non-live chat part of the website, and would be used to request help, appeal blocks/bans, and officially notify the user of something.

- Comment Comment The point of it would be to provide an alternative proposals site to Meta-Wiki. Random Wikimedian (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:07, 25 February 2021.
- Oppose Oppose I don't see how this helps at all. Leaderboard (talk) 21:58, 26 February 2021 (UTC) [reply ]
- Oppose Oppose "Wouldn't it be better to have a more organized, live-chat proposals project?": No, really, I don't think so. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 10:19, 1 March 2021 (UTC) [reply ]
- Oppose Oppose This is not a good idea... i'd say that the creator hasn't brainstormed enough. This proposal has no exceptional purpose Arep Ticous 18:04, 11 March 2021 (UTC) [reply ]
