Monday April 29, 2024 marks an important step for the future of the languages of Congo and Central Africa. UNESCO in the DRC has just counted among its partners the Wikimedia community user group Linguila, highlighted by the submission of the act of recognition of the national commission for UNESCO in the DRC to the country's permanent secretariat.
Joint actions planned under this partnership include projects such as Wiki Loves Earth for UNESCO-listed natural sites and reserves, WikiForMotherTongue for the preservation of local languages, Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom for Education, QRPedia in public institutions (universities, libraries, museums, airports, hospitals, etc.) for culture, linguistic documentation projects, the creation of multilingual educational resources, the training of teachers and local communities, as well as awareness-raising initiatives on importance of linguistic diversity for sustainable development.
