I tried to come up with a clean and slick design. Here is what i got so far. A lot of whitespace. Clean primary colors (this is simple thanks to the logo). Very few effects (no gradients, rounded borders and shadows almost invisible). I will try to improve this but everybody is free to do whatever he or she wants with this (please add your design below instead of changing mine). --TMg 17:08, 12 October 2012 (UTC) Reply
- Ohhhh that's nice! Definitely something to work with imho :) --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 17:15, 12 October 2012 (UTC) Reply
- "Recent additions" probably wouldn't be very useful as a section, though I quite like the design. --Yair rand (talk) 12:59, 14 October 2012 (UTC) Reply

There should be a method to show only Sister Projects of the current language settings. --Sk!d (talk) 19:05, 13 October 2012 (UTC) Reply
Hi,
It would be very nice to make the main page multilingual, since Wikidata is a multilingual wiki.
You can take some hints from the main page of Meta itself, which is internationalized quite nicely, although its internationalization is very heavily template-based. In Wikidata it will be probably be easy to install and use the Translate extension, which is a much more robust way to translate things (or maybe go totally crazy and use Wikidata itself for translation...) --Amir E. - I agree. The first step is add <languages/> at top, and enclose with <translate> tag the text to be translated. The spanish translation will be something like this (I use some text form the Spanish wikipedia):
English text | Spanish text |
---|---|

Wikidata is a free knowledge base that can be read and edited by humans and machines alike. It is for data as Wikimedia Commons is for media files: it centralises access and management of structured data, such as interwiki references and statistical information. Wikidata contains data in all languages for which there are Wikimedia projects. | Wikidata es una base de conocimientos libre que puede ser leída y editada tanto por humanos como por máquinas. - Wouldn't it make sense to do this in one language first and then translate? Otherwise it's just causing a lot of unnecessary work for translators. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 10:14, 23 October 2012 (UTC) Reply
Not sure what 234 properties refers to. 234 property entities or do the 123 items have 234 statements? The later seems more plausible due to the with. In that case properties should be statements I guess. --Danwe (talk) 12:21, 17 October 2012 (UTC) Reply
Some link to add:
- Donations
- WAP?
- Contact / IRC
- FAQ
- Glossary m:Wikidata/Glossary
- Tutorial
- Policies
- Properties names and meanings
- Community portal
- [Languahge] portal: every main page translation must link to the appropiate portal
- Dispute resolution
- Interlingual coordination
- How to contribute: m:Wikidata/Contribute
- Development m:Wikidata/Development
I would like to split this list of links to other pages, like so:
- Sidebar - Donations, Community portal
- Front page - FAQ, Glossary, Tutorial, Properties names and meanings, How to contribute, Contact
- Community portal - Policies, dispute resolution, Interlingual coordianation, Language portal, Development and I am going to add one more, Interwiki synchronization
...by mentioning "WAP", are you referring to mobile or something else ?--Snaevar (talk) 00:18, 26 October 2012 (UTC) Reply
Hello, do you know the Wikipedia:2012 main page redesign proposal ? It can perhaps show some design's exemple for the main page of wikidata. A Straw Poll is ongoing.
In the same idea, can I remplace the bottom section (the interwiki section) by the bottom section of w:Wikipedia:2012 main page redesign proposal/Pretzels (or w:Wikipedia:2012 main page redesign proposal/Nouill (alt. version of Pretzels design)) ? --Nouill (talk) 20:02, 26 October 2012 (UTC) Reply
All wikis seem to link to Special:Statistics but this page is so boring... Can't we link instead to somewhere in http://stats.wikimedia.org/ ? --Zolo (talk) 08:52, 29 October 2012 (UTC) Reply
