Massive spambots on wikinews-nl
The Dutch Wikinews is a wanted target of spamming activity ([1]). Unfortunately my rights as an admin seem to have expired as of today, so I can no longer block them.
Can a steward help, or perhaps just restore my rights? Lately I've been the only active admin on wikinews-nl, so this is just bad for the project. De Wikischim (talk) 18:47, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Done - cleanup done by global sysops. @De Wikischim: Requests for restoration of permissions need to be directed to SRP. ~riley (talk ) 19:53, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
Useless linking at akwiki
Can a steward look through the following contributions at the Akan Wikipedia (which has no local admins) and see if these edits should be undone?
- ak:Special:Contributions/107.77.221.116
- ak:Special:Contributions/2600:387:A:15:0:0:0:2C
- ak:Special:Contributions/2600:387:A:3:0:0:0:67
Most of these pages just recently had useless links added to them to push the wiki over 1,000 articles, then had the links removed (most by me, a few by Praxidicae); and now the IP is back adding more such links. I don't know the language, but they are linking extremely short words like "yɛ" and "a", which are almost certainly function words and not terms that should have encyclopedia articles about them. (Before they were often linking single letters within longer words, so it's pretty clear that their intent is to push the wiki over a milestone and not to provide useful links.) - dcljr (talk) 05:01, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
- Dug through over half of these contribs and made the decision to mass-revert. Range block placed per evasion of previous range block. Likely will contain to IP hop. This is an LTA; decker/mr anthony or similar per Prax. Let's continue to monitor. Appears localized right now to single wiki. ~riley (talk ) 06:15, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
Request for revision undeletion
Hi! I am sysop and oversight in German Wikipedia and I hereby request the undeletion of the last revision edited by de:user:Rissen-Offa on the page de:Wikipedia:Spielwiese in Wikipedia namespace. All the deleted revisions of this page are too many to undelete this one revision by myself. The revision must have been made between February 1st and April 1st 2020. Thank you for your help, Doc Taxon (talk) 02:51, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Trying to open Special:Undelete for that page is throwing an exception, since loading over 200,000 revisions is a bit too much for the servers. I've opened T249977. —Thanks for the fish! talk•contribs 03:41, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Doc Taxon: Actually, you can workaround this yourself, by using the API. However, according to the API, the page doesn't have said revision (last revision at de:Wikipedia:Spielwiese was made by a different user, and Rissen-Offa seems to have 0 deleted contributions). [2] lists the deleted revisions of that page from the newest to the oldest. If there is anything you would like to be restored, please let us know, and I'll happily restore it for you, or help you how you can do it yourself. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 14:38, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- I could check it by API, but was a time eating job Doc Taxon (talk) 19:46, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Mass page creation by FredkFredk
FredkFredk is mass creating identical pages on multiple wikis:
- dsbwiki - 105 edits - creating pages with just the content
PAGENAME IST EIN BRIEF.
- extwiki - 60 edits - creating pages with just the content
PAGENAME hue un añu normal escomençau en lunis nel calandáriu gregorianu. == Hechus == == Referencias == <references/>
See Special:CentralAuth/FredkFredk. Can the pages be nuked please? --DannyS712 (talk) 23:05, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
- Done Since this report, we had another 200 edits on another wiki replacing the page name in article text (i.e. "1778") with PAGENAME and spam creation on another wiki. Blocks placed on all with all contributions nuked/reverted - this is crosswiki abuse with small wikis being targetted, these creations are not beneficial and there is clear abuse going on for a brand new user to be using magic words, categories and templates en-masse. Requesting lock. Thank you DannyS712! ~riley (talk ) 03:58, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
One (or more) article from Korean Wikinews
Now that -revi resigned as ko.wn admin (but is still a steward), I would like a steward to review this article n:ko:5호선 하남 연장선, 6월 개통 어려울 듯 and ask whether it resembles the source that the article cites, hankookilbo.com, even when the match is not exact. GTX1060 created the article; Trainholic asserts that both are not the same. I checked a few paragraphs and found some resemblances; Trainholic is disputing my findings. BTW, I have proposed closure of the Korean Wikinews. George Ho (talk) 22:19, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
Almost forgot: this was previously discussed hours ago. George Ho (talk) 22:21, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
I think it's too much to try to find similarities in numbers and dates. 한국어를 하실 수 있는 사무장님께서 해당 사안을 판단해주실 것을 요청드립니다.(I ask that Steward, who can speak Korean, judge the case.)--Trainholic (talk) 06:13, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
GTX1060, let's not bug -revi's user talk page at ko.wn anymore. The steward barely has the time to check out the article and the source. Another steward Sotiale understands the language and can analyze. George Ho (talk) 06:45, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
GTX1060 and Trainholic, it's not just the numbers, figures, and dates. Look at the paragraphs and whole sentences, and then compare the ones from the other source. George Ho (talk) 06:47, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
I admit that the article in "5호선 하남 연장선, 6월 개통 어려울 듯" was written with reference to the article in the hankookilbo. However, is it possible to say that '215 people', '4 weeks from 20th' and '27 June' are the same as the original article? As trainholic says, sidewalks are similar because they are about one fact. In particular, it is difficult to differentiate the figures such as '215'. GTX1060 (talk) 06:51, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hmm.. after a quick look, I think this is not a copyvio. the part was pointed is only a very general expression and refers to the facts. No originality or creativity is found. I've looked at the whole article, but it's vague to think of it as a copyvio, although someone can discuss the quality of the article. I would recommend to kowikinews users: cite multiple sources or cover them yourself, and don't follow the content flow of other articles. Also, paraphrasing is recommended no matter how common the facts are. This will be important for you to avoid the misunderstanding of copyvio. There are currently no admins on kowikinews, so I will go over there very occasionally if necessary. If there is a copyvio, the article will be deleted immediately, and may be blocked if the action continues. --Sotiale (talk) 10:34, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
- Ah. Earwig's copyvio tool is doing okay...ish? Seems that only one sentence is concerning, but I guess I might have been wrong about the rest? George Ho (talk) 10:49, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
- Also, here's the tool comparing one revision with the source. George Ho (talk) 11:05, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
- So your point is? I also looked through the tool, so you don't have to present it to me. --Sotiale (talk) 11:10, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

An article in Korean wikinews that speks of the individual's position as on official
Turning the google translator can be unnatural. Sorry.
[3] kr:우리 한국어 위키뉴스는 박근혜 대통령의 영생을 기원합니다.
I request deletion of this article. The reason is:
- 1.1. It is not the official position of Korean Wikinews, 'I wish President Park Geun-hye's eternal life,' , 'We will continue to correct the wrong news related to President Park Geun-hye, and continue to raise public awareness' but it is used as an official position.
- 2.2. Source not found. I tried to google to find the source written below the article, but I couldn't find it. In my opinion, it seems to have been copied and pasted in terms of expressions such as 'this newspaper'.
I request deletion for the above reasons.

Updating MediaWiki:Mobile.css@ja.wiktionary

The old selector does not work for the latest MediaWiki output any more (as a result of phab:T114072?). An example that should match is 右に出る者はいない in [4]. Japanese Wiktionary does not have an interface administrator who can edit site-wide CSS files. whym (talk) 10:33, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Moving some pages on the English Wikipedia
Please see this page/revision on the English Wikipedia. In the section named "Moves needing help from a steward", there are two pages that need a steward's assistance to move due to both pages having large edit histories. Thanks! Steel1943 (talk) 22:13, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- I think a sysadmin is needed here (Martin Urbanec?), as stewards are no different to sysops when it comes to page moves.--Sakretsu (炸裂) 00:04, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- It's being requested here, from my understanding (I'm really just the messenger who made sure a request for stewards was put in the right place), is because the "BIGDELETE" function may be necessary, which is something admins don't have access to. Steel1943 (talk) 02:27, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- (Non-steward comment) I was actually also a messenger; the original request, en:Wikipedia talk:Introduction#Implementation, came from the a request for comment above it. Since System administrators#List reads if you need something to be done...file a ticket on phabricator.wikimedia.org , I thought I'd also link task T250551. Editing Common.css in ja.wiktionary
Please remove definitions of ".wikitable" and ".prettytable" on ja:wikt:MediaWiki:Common.css. jawikt don't need style definitions below:

Adminship for Kibi78704 on gd:wiktionary
Hi.
I've been editing gd:wiktionary (aka Uicleir) since 1 February 2015. After a while, my partner and I, the sole editors at the time, both became temporary admins. At the end of that 6-month term, both of us took a hiatus from editing Uicleir. I returned three years ago to become the sole consistent editor. I have been cleaning up for the past 3 years, somewhat under the wing of Akerbeltz on gd:Wikipedia. I've been translating & correcting misspelled page names, writing, debugging & documenting templates, deleting unnecessary redirects, categorizing and writing definitions, etc.
I am again petitioning for temporary adminship on gd:wictionary. I am currently the only editor working there. There are currently no stewards nor bureaucrats serving on that tiny wictionary; the only admin is the automated Abuse filter.
I have posted a notice to this effect on the portal, just in case anyone else is reading it. Please see Adminship for Kibi78704 - 25 Giblean 2020

Useless linking at ltgwiki
Could a steward look at the recent contributions of 162.196.142.177 in the Latgalian Wikipedia and see if they agree that the linking that the user is doing is "unhelpful" (and should be mass-reverted)? (Some examples: 1, 2, 3.) Note their efforts just pushed the wiki to 1K articles, which they recorded at en:Wikipedia:Milestone statistics.
