Bad bot edits on gomwiki

Status: Done

A steward might be required to help out fixing (e.g., possibly mass-reverting) a bunch of poorly executed bot edits (削除) (or bot-assisted user edits?) (削除ここまで) just made on the Goan Konkani Wikipedia. gom:User:RahmanuddinBot has apparently decided to link every instance of "Jezu" in existing articles to the local article on Jesus, regardless of where and how many times that string appears in each page. Needless to say, this has broken some things. See my talk page message to the user and proceed in whatever way seems best. - dcljr (talk) 04:18, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

See also the announcement of this brilliancy on gom:विकिपीडिया:समाजाचे_मुखेल_पान#Adding_links - "I will be happy to correct them". --MF-W 04:26, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
Hmm. We'll see what he does, I suppose. - dcljr (talk) 04:45, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
FYI, this guy doesn't actually seem "happy to correct" the errors his bot created; more like happy to fix a few minor things and not acknowlede the ton of problems that are left to fix. See the discussion linked to by MF-W if interested. The community is in the process of voting for admins (on the same page), so maybe soon a local admin can take care of the problem. - dcljr (talk) 05:21, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
OK, perhaps my assessment above was a little harsh. He has edited a few hundred pages since people started complaining, but he hasn't been catching all the mistakes, even when they've been pointed out and diffs linked to. It's frustrating... - dcljr (talk) 05:35, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
Nine months after the bot owner stopped editing pages changed by his bot (about 2 or 3 days after people started complaining), I have gone through all 1,827 pages edited by the bot and reverted and/or otherwise fixed the offending edits. Accordingly, I have marked this request as "done". - dcljr (talk) 02:26, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Badly named Babel AutoCreate categories

Status: Done

Last year, a bug in the Babel extension (see phab:T112868) caused a lot of badly named categories to be created. The bug was fixed quite quickly but the categories that were created still haven't been half a year later. Right now, there are 2990 categories across 207 wikis that need deleting. On the ticket, someone suggested asking here about a deletion bot. Is that something someone here can help with?

The categories were created between the 15th and 17th of September. There's a list of edits starting on [1] which could be used to extract a list of pages to delete.

- Nikki (talk) 14:25, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Not all done yet, there are a couple of hundreds ~260 left, but all remaining are tagged and feedback is left for 3 ones to be deleted at foundationwiki. [2]Ah3kal (talk) 06:09, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Importupload request: en:Wikipedia:The_Wikipedia_Adventure/* to fr.wikipedia

Status: Done

We would like steward assistance to:

  • export all the subpages of en:Wikipedia:The_Wikipedia_Adventure, en:Wikipedia:TWA and the guided tour JS
  • don't check Include templates (the templates we wants are already subpages of Wikipedia:The_Wikipedia_Adventure/*, and we don't want extra en.wikipedia templates)
  • import them as XML on fr. as is: we can keep the original page names, and so have Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure as destination: that will simplify a lot adaptation work, and will allow to rename when the import is tested (we don't want to debug AND the import issues AND the rename issues as the same time).

Rationale:

  • for the need of a request: this guided tour uses a lot of subpages, with templates in these subpages. To import them manually wouldn't be efficient, and prone to error/templates forgotten
  • for the steward assistance: fr.wikipedia doesn't have a status with importupload right
  • local consensus: consensus between project members: fr:Sujet:T8yewjtmzolij0r6

--Dereckson (talk) 13:39, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

As I've said in the Topic at frwiki (or at least I've tried, my french is so 'duh' these days) is that I feel it'd be simpler if we grant Dereckson the import right temporary at frwiki so he can do everything himself. Being Dereckson an experienced developer and being trusted to even do SWAT deploys, I think we can be sure we give this to good hands. —Marco Aurelio 14:09, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
Importer rights granted by Matanya. It'd be a good idea if you could be granted temporary sysop just in case there's something to clean afterwards; but I'll leave that to local bureaucrats to decide. —Marco Aurelio 20:42, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

This was already handled by Dereckson himself. —Marco Aurelio 14:58, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Need 2 wikis attatched to my SUL account

Status: Not done

(I assume this is the place to request this, but if not, please point me elsewhere...) For years now (since whenever SUL went "live"), I have known that kn.wikibooks.org and nl.wikinews.org (both closed) were never attached to my SUL account, and I'm just now finally getting around to doing something about it. They are not listed on my Special:CentralAuth page, even after using Special:MergeAccount and trying to "manually" login on the wikis (which failed, of course). I don't know how these are any different from dozens of other closed wikis that were successfully attached to my account, including many I never edited. (No user of the same name on either wiki, BTW.) So, can someone please merge kn.wikibooks.org and nl.wikinews.org into my SUL account, or tell me how I can get that done? - dcljr (talk) 03:04, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

I do not think there is any way to help you. These wikis are locked and they should not be edited in any case. Ruslik (talk) 18:12, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
Yes, but what I'm asking for doesn't require any edits to the wikis themselves (not even this kind of edit, which happens on locked wikis all the time). For consistency, I would like to have a user page (i.e., one mirrored from Meta) on every WM wiki, if possible. Is there an actual technical limitation here? - dcljr (talk) 03:25, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Yes. This is actually not a case of attaching local accounts to your SUL account, but of creating a new account in the first place. That can't be done as the wiki is closed. It also doesn't make sense to reopen it for that. --MF-W 17:48, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletions on scn.wp

Status: Done

Please, may somebody empty this category? It's got 49 items as of now, and will probably get some more in the next days (I'm doing a bit of a cleanup, mostly related to connecting local pages to Wikidata). --Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 10:52, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

There are no active admins on this project, so I will try to get through the category. MBisanz talk 13:37, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Grant OAuth access

Status: Done

Hi, please grant OAuth access to my application. It exists for a while as a script, now I am moving it to Labs to facilitate user access and make it work cross-wiki. The edit pages right will be used to automatically add edit-a-thon's template to the submitted articles (for users) and to send PM to participants (for jury members). Le Loy 09:49, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

  • I would like to ensorse this request. The nearest arcticles-writing marathon is about to start (in two weeks), and the OAuth access would be quite handy to deploy this universal tool that makes evaluation of the articles participating in contest much easier. Thanks in advance! Dr Bug (Vladimir V. Medeyko) 11:20, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

User:KHMELNYTSKYIA@ruewiki

Status: Done

Please pay attention to the contribution by today-registered user KHMELNYTSKYIA in the ruewiki. He's performing mass renaming of page names from Rusyn to Ukrainian, and is replacing Rusyn texts with Ukrainian translation ([5]). This user must be immediately blocked as a POV-vandal. That project has no own sysops. Thank you. --Wolverène 16:26, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

User blocked. Ruslik (talk) 17:14, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much Ruslik0. I will try to keep an eye on recent changes for this wiki because it's not the only incident I ever seen there. I have the last request - could you move rue:Лемко-Русинська Респбліка to "Руська народна републіка Лемків" and rue:Луксембрг to "Луксембурьско"? There is a technical limitation, so there's need to delete redirects first to make ways for renaming. --Wolverène 18:24, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

OAuth consumer for ClueBot NG

Status: Done

Hi,

Posting per the note on https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:OAuthConsumerRegistration/propose.

Please could I get a new Oauth consumer approved.

Same access as https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Steward_requests/Miscellaneous&oldid=15640846/T135323, just a different callback url.

For development purposes I need the auth flow to run, which the owner-only access doesn't provide :(

Consumer: ClueBot NG - Dev [1.1]

Thanks DamianZaremba (talk) 14:50, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Done. I've disabled ClueBot NG - Dev [1.0] as well. Hope that this helps. Best regards, —Marco Aurelio 15:34, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Sudden ability for user L_Manju in Sinhala Wikipedia to delete articles

Status: Done

As per this deletion log of Sinhala Wikipedia user L_Manju in Sinhala Wikipedia who is not a Sysop of the wikipedia had deleted certain articles in the process of moving them. Please clarify how this user was able to perform this Sysop ability --Shwetha (talk) 13:53, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

If the new title only contain a redirect and no other edits, any confirmed user can move a page to that new title. Then it will look like the user deleted the page first and then moved the page, but it's just an effect of the move. If a page has more history than just creating the redirect, then an administrator need to delete the page first. See Help:Moving a page#Moving over a redirect for more information on moving a page over a redirect. -- Tegel (Talk) 15:17, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
Please look at the deletion log again. It clearly shows that this iser had deleted the article page and the article talk page to get space for moving them. In Sinhala wikipedia we do so many moving of pages. However they do not get shown in the deletion log like this please. ---- Shwetha (talk) 15:31, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I have checked the log. As you can see here you can see that the delete and the move is done at the same time. If the destination page exist containing only a redirect and has no other history it is the "Move"-function that is doing the deletion of the page. It's nothing the user do separate. It would look the same in the log if you moved the same type of page. -- Tegel (Talk) 15:39, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I am sorry to disagree with you. Let us assume, as you claim, that the source page was si:සුජාත දියණි and destination page was si:තේ චං ගම් and it was just a move. According to you, for what had happened to happen, the destination page should not contain no other history other than a redirect. However, according to history of the destination page its is not so. Please clarify this again. ----Shwetha (talk) 16:20, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
The current destination page contains history. The destination page that was there before and got deleted during the move didn't contain any history. That page only contained the redirect and then it was possible for the move-function to delete it. The page history is moved together with the page, so you can't look at the current destination page history. Check with the local administrator and they can confirm that the deleted page only contained the redirect. -- Tegel (Talk) 16:28, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I would believe your argument if you can show any other this kind of happening in deletion log or any other logs. For me this is the first and only happening of appearance of a non-sysop in the deletion log. ---Shwetha (talk) 16:51, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
Go to this page and move it to the title පරිශීලක:Tegel/test2 that is another sub page under my user page. Then we can check the logs. -- Tegel (Talk) 16:56, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I tried. Moving is not possible as the destination page already exists please. --- Shwetha (talk) 17:01, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
Try one more time. Or you can check this log where you have a deletion of a page August 26. The user is not an administrator. -- Tegel (Talk) 17:08, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
The redirect should be a redirect back to the page to be moved. Ruslik (talk) 17:14, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I tried to move again. But move gets rejected saying the destination page already exists. We will drop this issue. For me it is strange and unresolved. My faith on Wikipedia system is shacked a little and I tend to think that there are loop-holes through which wrong-doers can escape unpunished. Thanks for your time. ---Shwetha (talk) 17:20, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
This behavior was recently introduced with the fixing of an old bug (see phab:T106119 and [6]). I don't understand why you think that "wrong-doers can escape unpunished" because of this. --Glaisher (talk) 17:24, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I small clarification: what changed is how the moves over redirects are shown in logs. No user got any new abilities. Ruslik (talk) 17:28, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
It might be because I created the redirect-page manually and not as part of a move. But there is conditions when it's possible to move a page over a redirect, although this type of move is not that common. -- Tegel (Talk) 17:27, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I repeatedly mentioned that this is the first time I noticed this kind of behavior. Only Glaisher told that "This behavior was recently introduced". Thanks for the revelation. My earlier statement was due to the belief that the user was a sock-puppet or tried to hack the system. We do have a history of a previous admin who tried to spy on us. Thanks. Now I see the whole picture. Article "A" had been created. Then history of edits. Then moved to article "B" without a redirect by a sysop. Then history of edits. Then article "B" moved to article "C" by a normal user. Then a sysop moved article "C" to article "B" with a redirect. Then a normal user moved article "B" to article "C". Then this current move of article "C" to article "B". If "This behavior was recently introduced" & as the pages contain lot of redirects along with moves, what is shown in deletion log is understood. I apologize for harsh remarks. thanks. ---Shwetha (talk) 17:44, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
This behavior is as ancient as Wikipedia. What changed recently is how such moves are recorded in logs. Ruslik (talk) 17:59, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks everyone. ---Shwetha (talk) 18:04, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

Vepwiki: please, ban all unregistered users from editing

ro.voy edit box

Status: Done

A few years ago I added some buttons to the edit box on ro.wikivoyage. Apparently, the code I wrote back then no longer works, so I've put up a replacement script. I would appreciate if someone would replace ro:voy:MediaWiki:Editor.js with voy:ro:User:Strainu/Editor.js. Alternatively (but less secure), you could just import my script in the main one. Thanks!--Strainu (talk) 14:21, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

@Strainu: Hi, have you already tested if this code works correctly? Syum90 (talk) 17:26, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I tested with the dev tools. But I've looked closer now and it seems I was just importing the script in my common.js. I'll start a discussion on the local village pump about enabling it for everyone.--Strainu (talk) 19:52, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
Here it is: voy:ro:Wikivoyage:Hanul_călătorilor#Butoane_pentru_adrese--Strainu (talk) 19:59, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
