Sorry for delays in responding to OTRS volunteer requests. They'll be looked at, but not immediately. If you are asking to volunteer for an existing queue, please list your interest on OTRS/volunteering.
Hi, just wanted to let you know that on your WMF User Page, you said "...you can see my primary user page on the." You've also got an 'in other languages' link. Dunno if you meant to use en:User:Mindspillage or not. Thunderhead 12:02, 29 December 2006 (UTC) Reply

Good morning (GMT time); on behalf of the Wikipedia Signpost at Wikipedia en, I am currently operating a "WikiInterview" system which aims to inform the Wikipedia english community of WMF going-ons through carefully-structured questions.
Due to your high involvement with the WMF, and your civil and friendly nature, we have put our sights in interviewing yourself for the 'Post. We appreciate the fact you have both internal and external committments, and feel free to turn down this oppurtunity.
You may participate in as many or as little questions as you: feel comfortable with/wish to answer/can be bothered answering :) The longer the answers the better - we benefit by having a great interview, and you benefit by being able to project the WMF's views and your views to the entire community.
Hoping to see you at the interview page sometime next week, your schedule and willingness permitted.
Kind regards,
Anthony cfc [T • C] 01:49, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
New OTRS contact for sv:
Hi Kat! I have taken over as the new OTRS contact for sv: since Mats Halldin has left the project. I assume his user account on OTRS should be removed. Is there anything you require from me to confirm this change of contact and account removal? Riggwelter 11:01, 10 January 2007 (UTC) Reply

Sorry about that. :) I just wasn't sure because it looked like you added an e-mail address... it seemed like something a vandal would post. :-P Cbrown1023 03:42, 7 February 2007 (UTC) Reply

Hallo. Your name is listed among the contact persons at OTRS as a contact person. We would like to start the queues info-sk and permissions-sk for the Slovak Wikimedia projects. I have been trying to get in touch with one of the contact person for a while, but I have not received a response. Could you please help? Thank you! Legitimacy of an arb com
I ask you this question as a member of the WMF board, and as a former enwiki arbitrator.
Lately, I have been talking to various people from different places about the subject arbitration committees. One person - who actually is an arbitrator on a wiki - told me that to be able to take binding decisions, and arb com has to be approved by the WMF board. Is this true?
I find nothing about it on the meta page Arbitration Committee. (I find the whole page weird since it is on meta but does not describe arbitration committees in general but only the enwiki arb com, but is on meta, but that is another issue.) Also... I just don't get it. If a community has an arb com, they have decided to have it. Its decisions are legimate because the community has decided to give these people their role as arbitrators. Or? Have I missed something? // habj 10:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC) Reply
- Thank you for your comment! Yes, it seems reasonable that the confusion is due to mixing up Jimmy Wales's different roles. I didn't think of that. // habj 11:30, 10 March 2007 (UTC) Reply

- It is only protected from those users not autoconfirmed (i.e. IPs and recently new users). Please also note that an account is not given to everyone (only select few). Cbrown1023 talk 19:38, 20 April 2007 (UTC) Reply

Would this mean that the "checkuser" status be restricted? And what if there are already checkusers under 18 that have the status? Thunderhead 19:30, 28 April 2007 (UTC) Reply
- I presume their status would be revoked, although I don't thnk there are any checkusers under 18 on any projects (at least not that I'm aware of). AmiDaniel 03:33, 1 May 2007 (UTC) Reply
- I definitely think there are CUs under 18, but yes, AmiDaniel is right, they will have their status removed (unfortunately). Cbrown1023 talk 19:38, 1 May 2007 (UTC) Reply
- Presumably it would be possible to merely remove someone's access until they become 18? Is there any reason not to restore the permission in question to them at that time? WJB scribe 21:34, 1 May 2007 (UTC) Reply
- Of course, but they would proof of identification at that time. Also, this is only if the OTRS admin or community still thinks we can trust them with access. Ahh, I see what you mean. I think it would be best for another community nomination, the community's trust in the user or the need of that tool for the community may change. Cbrown1023 talk 21:44, 1 May 2007 (UTC) Reply

- Question 2: How and where is information to be provided? What is considered acceptable ID? Thanks - KillerChihuahua 02:56, 1 May 2007 (UTC) Reply
- The information should be provided to Cary Bass (or bastique, both are the usernames of our Volunteer Coordinator) in an e-mail to cbass at wikimedia dot org. It appears that a photocopy of an ID, passport, or birth certificate (anything that can prove you are a real life person over the age of 18, or the legal age of adulthood for your jurisdiction, will probably be fine). I am sure that Cary will outline all the rules soon. Cbrown1023 talk 19:34, 1 May 2007 (UTC) Reply
My account on OTRS
Hi Kat! Sorry for bothering you with my trivial problems :-) I can't see my queue on OTRS, it shows 0 tickets for me. I can read tickets if someone points an URL, but i can't write any response. The message is "You need rw permissions!" I think there's something wrong with my account. In the last days I was tracking several topics in discussion at comcom and now I feel a bit blind :-( Thank you in advance for your help. --Zuirdj 06:52, 11 May 2007 (UTC) Reply

English Wikinews and fair use rationales for non-free content

I've just set up a tag and a category at English Wikinews for dealing with the large backlog of non-free images there that have no fair use rationales. I'm having trouble communicating the absolute necessity, and non-negotiability, of having detailed fair use rationales to an administrator there. Some assistance would be appreciated. (Yes, this is the same administrator that Eloquence was trying to get the point across to two months ago.) Uncle G 09:10, 16 May 2007 (UTC) Reply
Licensing policy: request for clarification
Kat, since Anthère has mentioned that you, together with Erik, co-wrote the WMF licensing policy, you might maybe want to help clear up some confusion that has arisen at the German WP (and spread from there) about the interpretation of the policy and its consequences. See User talk:Eloquence#Licensing policy: request for clarification and User talk:Anthere#Licensing policy. Could you please give your advice? (Or at least help set us common editors straight? :-) Lupo 12:02, 24 May 2007 (UTC) Reply

Wikimania Coverage
Call for Photographers, Writers, and Cameramen
If you are attending Wikimania, we need you to help cover it. Please post all your Wikimania 2007 articles, videos, and pictures here http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event_Coverage, so that other Wikimedians have a way to virtually participate in our annual conference.
To help coordinate coverage, we are asking that individuals sign up to cover a specific event here: http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/wiki/Article_Coverage. This will ensure that all events are being covered.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems that this section of your user page is now out of date, given your re-election.

New swedish OTRS queues
Hi Kat! I would like to add two addresses/queues in OTRS: press-sv@wikimedia.org and wikimedia-sverige@wikimedia.org (the latter one is for the soon-to-be-founded local chapter of Wikimedia). The queues are to be accessed by myself and Hannibal. Please let me know when the changes are done. Best regards, Riggwelter 08:23, 11 September 2007 (UTC) Reply
- Hm, I just noticed that press-sv is there. Does Hannibal have access to OTRS? Riggwelter 08:41, 11 September 2007 (UTC) Reply
- HI Kat! Just wondering if this has been sorted. It's a bit urgent. Riggwelter 12:51, 20 September 2007 (UTC) Reply
Why did you remove the attributions from the Q1 2005 quotes? Those data have been properly scrubbed for a couple years now. Please fix. --Daniel Mayer 13:06, 30 October 2007 (UTC) Reply

Finnish Wikibooks
Hello Kat!
I recently sent a message to info(a)wikimedia.com regarding a situation at the Finnish Wikibooks. The message was addressed to the Board of Wikimedia Foundation. I understand that replying to the message may take some time but I was wondering if the message had reached its destination. Could you please reply to me at User talk:Samulili.
