Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Wiki for minorities Photo contest (Arab Community) (ID: 22579564)
Add topicDear Rotana Nawwaf Al Hasanat,
Thank you very much for taking the time to submit an application for this Rapid Fund cycle. We welcome your efforts and your dedication to expanding content with the focus on minorities in the Arabic speaking community. Please see our comments and recommendations below and respond to them on this page by Friday, May 10:
- Arabic Community Engagement. We noticed that you have reached out to the Wiki for Minorities group, although we see that there is yet to be community engagement from the Arabic Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons communities. We understand that this is an exploratory project that is yet to begin but we encourage you to seek community input and engagement as soon as possible to ensure the success of your project.
- Missing metrics. We noticed that you did not include any metrics for your project (Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons entries). Please include these metrics as it is important for you to have expected outputs and outcomes for your project that you can then use to evaluate against your actual outcomes.
- Question on compensation. May you also share what reference you are using for 25USD/hr compensation for organizers?
- Learning questions. Thank you for including learning questions for your project. We would also recommend that you include the following questions: is there appetite for this contest in the Arabic community? What specific minorities have been the focus of the campaign and why? What kind of content were the participants most interested in contributing?
Once again, thank you for your contributions to the movement and we look forward to receiving your responses. FElgueretly-WMF (talk) 14:27, 3 May 2024 (UTC) Reply
- Dear FElgueretly-WMF
- Thank you so much for your valuable feedback, I appreciate it, and kindly find my following answers:
- Arabic Community Engagement: we started our work in supporting minorities in the Arab community from (Jordan), and we finished 3 photo walks related to (Wiki for minorities) in Jordan (Wiki for Minorities in Jordan), and based on this experiences, we planed to support minorities in the all Arabic community, we already collected their opinions about our project, and you can check t in the following page.
- Supporting minorities in the Arab community is of paramount importance as it contributes to building a more diverse and inclusive society. One effective step towards this goal is to add images representing minorities to the Wikimedia Commons library, allowing people to learn about their cultures and experiences through visuals. Additionally, writing articles related to minorities in the Arab community on the Arabic Wikipedia platform is crucial for documenting their history, contributions, and raising awareness about their issues. These actions help foster mutual understanding, enhance inclusivity, and promote justice within the Arab community.
- Missing metrics: we added the missing metrics in Fluxx based on your request (Wikimedia Commons: 500 images or more , Arabic wikipedia: 150 Articles or more)
- Question on compensation: we checked the range in other grants (ID: 21972013), (ID: 22023127), (ID: 22005861), and more, based on this analysis we added 25USD/hr.
- Learning questions: There is a good demand in the Arab community, as there are many minorities in all Arab societies, as I have collected and identified them in this file. There are many options and many minorities that need support in Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, by adding pictures and articles.
- We are very encouraged to manage this project, and we hope to get enough support to complete it successfully.

The proposal idea is crucial for engagement within the Arabic community. Based on past experience training minorities in Wiki projects in Iraq, I've observed their passion for documenting and sharing knowledge about their communities through specialized events. This not only encourage them to share their content but also strengthens user groups by attracting more volunteers across different regions within a country. Ultimately, this contributes to a more diverse and expansive Arabic community.
