Tell us about how you contribute currently, and how you would contribute if WMF were to gift a used laptop to you.

I am a blogger and writer from India besides being a Wikimedian since 2014. I have been contributing to several Wikimedia projects, particularly the Odia Wikipedia, Odia Wikisource, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, with a Chromebook that I received through Project Tiger in 2018. I have been a Wikimedian since 2014 with more than 518,050 Global edits. I mostly edit on Odia Wikipedia, Odia Wikisource, Commons (Contributions) (uploaded more than 59,000 audio pronunciations) in Odia-language and Wikidata. I am one of the founding members of Odia Wikimedians User Group#Members. As this  Chromebook gets older, it’s often failing during simple and light-weight operations.

I have also contributed to Wikimedia projects with photographs and audio and video interviews of notable people. I have participated in workshops like Train The Trainer 2018, Wiki Advanced Training 2018, Wikidata Advanced Training 2018, Advanced Wikisource Training 2019 and conferences like Wiki Conference India 2023.

I have contributed to the 100wikidays since March 2017, completing it 23 times. I am a regular contributor to Odia Wikisource where I focus ong proofreading since December 2017. I have organized 18 edit-a-thons and 5 small improve-a-thons in Odia Wikipedia.

With a laptop from this programme,

  • I could contribute more high quality images as many images require some post-processing
  • More speech data contributions to Commons using projects like Lingua-Libre;
  • More contributions (improving and patrolling) on Odia Wikipedia.
  • It will help to create good quality audio projects.
  • I could create video tutorials to help the new contributors and advanced guides in the local language for existing users.
  • More use of Auto Wiki Browser, QuickStatement, Open Refining, etc.

So I will use this laptop to increase the quality of my editing contribution through photography, video tutorial creation, conducting online-workshops, outreach, and presentations during partnership meetings, in addition to regular editing on Wikimedia projects.
