- Abstract/description: Bikol Wikipedia has emerged as a vital platform for preserving, developing, and disseminating knowledge in the Bikol language within the broader ecosystem of Wikipedia. This presentation, "Tracing Two Decades of Growth: Milestones, Challenges, and the Evolution of Bikol Wikipedia," examines the history of the project from its proposal in to its 20th anniversary in 2026.
- Drawing on community records, campaign participation, and contributor experiences, the presentation highlights key milestones that shaped the platform’s development, including early community formation, engagement in global Wikimedia initiatives, the expansion of content through translation, and the strengthening of partnerships with educational and cultural institutions. At the same time, it explores persistent challenges such as limited editor retention, language standardization issues, resource constraints, and the sustainability of volunteer-driven efforts.
- The presentation situates Bikol Wikipedia within the larger context of local-language knowledge production and digital inclusion in the Philippines. It argues that while significant progress has been achieved in increasing visibility and access to Bikol-language content online, long-term growth depends on strategic interventions in community building, capacity development, and institutional collaboration.
