Project summary

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • The Wikimedia Yobe Network was approved in October 2024 to support the goals of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria in sustaining Wikimedia awareness and programs in Yobe State.

We will launch the Wikimedia Yobe Network with an edit-a-thon of editors that include Hausa Wikipedia, Fulfulde Wikipedia, Karai-Karai Wikipedia, Bole Wikipedia and Kanuri Wikipedia. Experiences and observations show that many members of Wikimedia in Yobe State are new to Wikipedia and its principles having this Network will help them learn more about Wikimedia. They do not seem to understand the implications behind editing and sustaining a Network. They seem to lack commitment and determination to move the Wikipedia forward. Therefore, it becomes necessary that everyone is brought on the same knowledge and commitment. Being a new Network, there is a need to mentor, encourage, create more awareness, talk about the principles and give more insights into Wikimedia, as well as answer questions on issues of Wikipedia and its activities.

The members of the platform will be reached through the Network platforms, messages, social media platforms and in different meetings where members belong.

The participants have laptops, smart phones and other electronic devices that are needed to work on Wikipedia.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

The new members will be added to the Network's Whatsapp platform where regular information and training are done. There will be regular programs to assist the members’ participation and contribution. The will also be follow-up on the already existing Whatsapp platforms. There will be regular motivation to inspire members.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This is the first time to launch and Edit-a-thon of Wikimedia Yobe Network since the Network was approved. It is a novel activity of the members of the Network. It is hoped that it will inspire members and build skills.

User: De-Invincible is the President of Wikimedia Yobe Network. He is an experienced Wikimedian and has participated in many Wikipedia's meeting and projects. He is also a certified Wikipedia Trainer. User: El-hussain14 is an experienced Wikipedia that has participated in many Wikipedia projects and meetings too. What resources do you need?
