We built Linuxier the way we like the tools we write about: transparent and predictable. That principle applies to your data too. The sections below describe what we hold, why we hold it, and how you can ask us to change or remove it. If anything here is unclear, the contact page is the fastest way to reach us.
If you never fill in a form, we never learn your name or email. We keep short-lived server logs and, at most, privacy-respecting visitor counts. We do not sell data, and we do not run advertising or behavioural tracking.
What we collect
There are only a few ways any personal information reaches us:
- Contact form submissions. When you use the contact page, we receive the name, email address and message you type in, plus the topic you pick. That is the information we need to write you back.
- Basic server logs. Like almost every website, our server records standard request data — IP address, browser user-agent, the page requested and a timestamp. These logs exist for security and to help us diagnose errors, and they rotate out on a short schedule.
- Minimal analytics. If we run analytics at all, we keep it privacy-respecting: aggregate page views and rough referrer counts, without cross-site tracking, advertising cookies or fingerprinting. We are interested in which guides help people, not in who you are.
How we use it
We use the little we collect for two purposes and no others: to respond to you when you write in, and to improve the guides. Message contents help us reply accurately and, sometimes, spot a gap worth writing a new tutorial to fill. Aggregate traffic figures tell us which topics deserve more attention or an update. We never use your details to build a profile, and we do not send unsolicited marketing.
Linuxier uses essential cookies only — the kind needed for the site to load and behave correctly. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If a privacy-respecting analytics tool is in use, it is configured to avoid identifying individuals, and your browser's Do Not Track and cookie controls are honoured.
Third parties
To serve the site quickly and legibly we rely on a small number of infrastructure providers, and your browser may contact them directly:
- Web fonts. Our typefaces load from a font provider so pages render with the right typography. That request necessarily exposes your IP address to the provider, as with any externally hosted asset.
- Hosting and CDN. The pages and static assets are delivered through standard hosting and content-delivery infrastructure, which processes request data purely to route and cache the response.
These providers act as processors for the limited technical data they see; they are not given your contact-form details, and we do not share that information with advertisers or data brokers.
Data retention
We keep things only as long as they are useful. Contact messages are retained while a conversation is active and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted or archived. Server logs are short-lived and rotate automatically. Any aggregate analytics figures are just that — aggregate — and hold no personal detail once collected. If you would like your message and details removed sooner, tell us and we will do it.
You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, request a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it entirely. Send the request from the contact page and we will act on it. There is no account to log into and no form to hunt for — a plain message is enough.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change — a new analytics tool, a different host — we will update this page and move the date below. Because we collect so little to begin with, we expect changes to be rare and modest. This policy is maintained by the Linuxier team; there is no separate company entity, registration number or postal office behind it, and we would rather be honest about that than invent one.
