About

I'd Hit It, often used synonymously with "I'd hit that" or "I'd tap that", is a catchphrase applied to photographs of or references to individuals who the speaker finds attractive. The catchphrase is also often used ironically, or applied to image macros of popular characters or figures and combined with a connected pun.

Origin

The exact origin of the catchphrase is unknown. It was first defined on Urban Dictionary on January 23rd, 2003 by user DictionaryX as "Vernacular, commonly used by males, meaning, 'I would like to have sexual relations with that female.'" As of September 25th, 2015, the definition 3551 upvotes and 253 downvotes.[1]

Spread

In 2005, the phrase was included in a web advertisement for the fast food chain McDonald's (shown below), which caused controversy and has been listed by multiple sources to be one of the biggest advertising mistakes ever. In May of 2009, YouTube user NcredibleEnt uploaded a skit featuring actors Kevin Hart and Affion Crocker entitled "I'd Hit That." The skit was a parody of a Charlie Rose-style talkshow, but instead of talking about world events, the actors discussed different people with whom they would potentially have sex. There were at least two episodes of this skit made (both below), and according to Google Trends, this posting coincided with a peak in interest in the phrase online. "Episode 4" has acquired 35,000 views since its posting, while "Episode 8" has over 57,000 views as of September 2015.

Since then, the phrase has been tagged on a variety of image macro and meme archives, including Memecenter,[2] WeKnowMemes,[3] and Cheezburger.[4] The single topic blog "idhititlike" was created on April 18th, 2011, and continued posting through May 2013.[5]
